Pets and other wild animals often found in gardens can cause many problems whether due to scorching through urination or foraging for food.

Dogs are often the worst culprits when it comes to scorching the lawn through the urea in their urine with bitches often causing more damage than dogs. The urea has a high nitrogen content which is generally a good fertiliser – unfortunately this is often at too high a level in the urine and will then kill the grass. There are products on the market that will claim to reduce the urea content and therefore protect the lawn from scorch that come in tablet, liquid or rock format but in our opinion there is no single product that will give guaranteed success. If you have a visiting or stray dog urinate on your lawn the only effective solution is to flush the affected area with a generous volume of water as quickly as possible before the urea takes effect.
